You are as Readable as a Book

Art Directed shoot, Embroidered Mask and Publication

As part of a body of work on ‘connection’ I downloaded all of my Facebook data amounting to 742 folders.
I then designed and embroidered a mask with my facial recognition code and wore this alongside tattoos
of each folder in a photography shoot that was art directed by myself. By wearing the data on my body,
I reclaimed all of the information and no longer hid behind the ‘facade of my online image’.

To help convey this conceptual metaphor the aesthetic is very soft with lots of texture which feels very ‘human’. I paired these images with an excerpt from Lawrence Scott commenting on how we have made ourselves “as readable as a book”. The excerpt is underlined which purposely feels very digital in comparison to the imagery.
